Chapter 5- The past and the present

Chapter 5 ; The Past & The Present

[Nobodies P.O.V]

A little girl aged around five to six years old wandered through a hallway.

“Mummy! Daddy! Where are you?”

She continued to walk down the hallway until she reach a room situated at the end of the hallway.

Knocking gently she then opened the door.

What greeted her was the sight of her mother, hanging from the ceiling….dead.

“Mummy!”

[Kyo Wen’s P.O.V]

I sat up in bed with sweat dripping down my forehead.

It was that dream again. The dream that haunted me every night since the day my mother hung herself.

Unable to go back to sleep I glanced at the clock that showed it was 4.30 in the morning.

Sighing, I got out of bed and got ready for work.

After checking my appearance in the full length mirror, I walked down the stairs towards the kitchen.

As I opened the cupboard my phone rang.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone.

“Hello?”

I was curious of who would be on the other side of the line so early in the morning.

“Kyo Wen ah. Hyun Joong won’t wake up!” complained Jung Min.

“Oppa? What are you doing up so early?”

“Have you forgotten? I’m in charge of waking the others up”

“Yah, it’s only five in the morning! You’re suppose to wake them up at five thirty”

“Oh. I thought it was five”

I could just see Jung Min’s embarrassed expression in my head.

I laughed to myself.

“Yah, Kyo Wen ah, why are you laughing to yourself?” asked Jung Min.

“Oh, it’s nothing. Anyways, just let Hyun Joong sleep. I’ll be there in fifteen minutes, okay?”

“Okay”

I quickly hung up and grabbed a pack of biscuit and a box of fruit juice from the cupboard and stuffed them into my backpack.

Checking to make sure that I have everything in order at home, I grabbed my car keys and left for their dorm.

[SS501’s Dorm | Kyo Wen’s P.O.V]

“Morning!” I greeted the four zombies sitting on the floor.

They just looked up at me then glared at Jung Min.

“Yah, why are all of you looking like zombies?”

“The horse woke us up too early!” complained Hyung Joon.

“It’s called being punctual!” retorted Jung Min.

“Okay, okay. Quite bickering and go get ready. You aren’t going to turn up at the dance battle in your PJ’s are you?” I asked while eyeing them.

Kyu Jong slightly nudged Young Saeng whom then nudged Hyung Joon whome threw a fit.

“Is it that hard to go bathe? Jong oppa, you go bathe!” I ordered.

Kyu Jong reluctantly got up and dragged himself into the bathroom.

“Min oppa, you too” I pointed at Jung Min whom was lying on the floor.

“Do I have to?” he whined.

“Go!”

Giving up, he got up and went into the other bathroom.

Sighing, I walked into Hyun Joong’s room to wake him up.

“Oppa, wake up!”

I shook him vigorously but he continued sleeping like a log.

“Yah! Oppa!” I screamed into his ear.

I was going to get closer and scream into his ear again when he suddenly turned and I ended up having my lips on his.

Shocked, I pulled back and his eyes flickered open.

“Sorry” I muttered before walking out of his room clearly embarrassed.

“Kyo Wen ah, why are your cheeks so red? Do you have a fever?” asked Kyu Jong while he placed his palm on my forehead.

“I’m fine” I swatted his hand away and pulled Hyung Joon up onto his feet and sent him into the bathroom to get ready.

“Min oppa, can you help me prepare breakfast?” I called from the kitchen.

“Yeah, sure. Just a minute”

He then came running into the kitchen while putting his watch on.

“What are we going to have today?” he asked, looking at the ingredients.

“I was thinking of making pancakes. What do you think?”

“Great!”

We then started to prepare the batter and in about half an hour we had six plates of freshly made pancakes with maple syrup set on the counter top.

Jung Min pulled out a tray from one of the cupboards and placed three plates on it while I took the other three.

“Yah, come get your pancakes” I called to the others.

They quickly got onto their feet and scampered over to get their breakfast.

I passed Hyun Joong his plate without making eye contact with him.

“So, how are your preparations for the dance battle later?” I asked while digging into my pancake hungrily.

“Great, but I’m not sure if we will win” replied Hyun Joong.

“I’m sure you guys will do fine. Even if you don’t win at least you tried” I replied without looking at Hyun Joong.

[Recording Studio | Kyo Wen’s P.O.V]

“Jung Min, your hair is too flat!” commented Hyun Joong.

Jung Min then ran to the mirror and fixed his hair while Kyu Jong sat there warming up.

Young Saeng was busy texting and Hyung Joon was practicing the dance moves.

“Okay guys, gather round” I called.

They assembled in front of me and I smiled at them.

“Remember, it doesn’t matter if you win or loose. What matters most is that you do your best, okay?”

“Okay” they chorused.

I placed my hand out in front of me and they placed theirs on mine.

“Fighting!” we screamed.

As the boys were getting ready to go on stage, Hyun Joong approached me.

“Kyo Wen ah”

“Yeah?” I turned around then stopped when I realize we were standing too close to each other.

I quickly took a step back.

“I just wanted to apologize for what happened this morning” he said while starring at his shoes.

“Ah, it’s okay. Don’t think about that now, do your best on the stage” I patted his shoulder then turned back to help Kyu Jong fix his mic.

[Later | Kyo Wen’s P.O.V]

I stood beside the stage and watched the boys perform.

I was truly amazed at how good they were.

Throughout the week I was too busy to watch them practice and therefore this was the first time I was seeing the dance.

Dong Bang Shin Ki’s manager was standing beside me when he suddenly spoke up.

“They are quite a talented bunch” he commented.

“Yeah, they are. Dong Bang Shin Ki are talented too” I replied with a smile.

“How long did they practice?”

“About a week”

“Ah….”

Our conversation ended there and the boys exited the stage.

I quickly went into the changing room to look for them.

“You guys did great!” I praised them.

The Dong Bang boys turned and look at me as I had screamed from the entrance.

“Oopss, sorry” I apologized before scampering over to the double S boys.

“Kyo Wen ah, was there a need to scream?” asked Jung Min with a teasing smile.

I just knocked him on the head lightly then turned to Hyun Joong.

“Yah, you didn’t tell me you guys were THAT good” I complained.

“I didn’t want to blow my own trumpet” he replied with a grin on his face.

Then a girl about a year younger then me came running into the room towards Kyu Jong.

“Oppa! You were so great up there!” She boomed with a bright smile on her face.

“Kyo Min, don’t run all over!” scolded a man in his mid 40’s.

I took a good look at him then my face fell and my body filled with anger.

“I’m so sorry, but my daughter is a really big fan of yours and was very excited when I told her I managed to get us backstage passes for today’s show” explained the man.

“Oh, it’s okay” replied Kyu Jong with a smile.

“Can I have your autographs, please?” pleaded the girl he called Kyo Min.

“Sure!” chorused the boys.

“Wait!” I stopped them.

All five boys, Kyo Min and her father turned towards me.

“What’s wrong Kyo Wen?” asked Young Saeng who saw the anger in my eyes.

“Kyo….Kyo Wen?” stuttered the man.

“You’re Kyo Wen?” he asked.

“Yes, I am” I replied coldly.

“Kyo Wen ah, it’s really you! I’ve been looking for you for so long!” he extended and arm out to touch my face but I pushed it away.

“Don’t touch me!” I screamed.

The double S boys and Kyo Min starred at me while the Dong Bang boys stood there watching with curious faces.

“Kyo Wen ah, I’m your father. Don’t you remember me?” he asked with tears streaming down his cheeks.

“I don’t have a father! Even if I did, he died the moment my mother hung herself!” I screamed and ran out of the room.

Tears were streaming down my cheeks like a dam had broken.

Why did he have to appear after so many years?

I had made a declaration that my father had died since I was six.

He was the cause that my mother hung herself.

He was having an affair with my mother’s best friend and she couldn’t take it anymore.

She didn’t want to tell me because she thought I was too young to understand.

But my aunt that took me in had told me what had happened.

I grew up as an orphan in an orphanage since I was seven as my aunt was going to get married and her husband objected to the idea of adopting me.

Those days were not days that I would like to ever remember again.

I finally came to a stop as I reached a nearby park and sat down on a nearby bench.

I cried so hard my body shook.

I never thought that I would meet him again, not after so many years.

My mind drifted off to the time when I was five, when mummy, daddy and I were at the beach celebrating my birthday.

I was interrupted by someone screaming my name.

“Kyo Wen! Kyo Wen ah, where are you?”

There was more then one voice.

I wasn’t ready to see anybody so I stood up and walked off.

But before I could get any further I felt someone pull onto my hand.

“Kyo Wen!” sighed Kyu Jong.

I starred at him then tears started to roll down my cheeks again.

He pulled me close to him and soothed me.

Soon, all the other four boys had joined us and enveloped me into a group hug.

I didn’t want to let them see me like this but I couldn’t stop.

About fifteen minutes later I had calmed down and my tears had stop coming out.

“Sorry” I mumbled under my breath.

“It’s okay” replied Hyun Joong while he patted my head.

“Let’s go home” suggested Young Saeng.

“No! You guys have to go back for the ending ceremony!” I protested.

“It’s not important and I’m sure you do not want to go back there” replied Jung Min.

“It’s okay, come on!”

I grabbed Kyu Jong’s hand in my right and Jung Min’s in my left and dragged them all back to the studio.

Dong Bang Shin Ki and the MC was already on stage when we got back.

The crowd was obviously curious at why SS501 wasn’t on stage or anywhere in sight as they cheered when the boys enetered.

I quickly ushered them up the stage and resumed my position at the side of the stage beside the Dong Bang boy’s manager.

He just smiled at me when I stood beside him and I replied with a smile.

I had my full attention on the boys when suddenly I felt someone tap me on the shoulder.

I spun around and was met by Kyo Min.

“Erm, hi” she said shyly.

“Yes?” I asked, not wanting to talk to her.

I know it’s not her fault but I wasn’t ready.

“I just wanted to say hi” she replied with a smile on her face.

Her smile resembled mine, it was an inheritance from ‘our’ father.

“Well, hi” I replied not knowing what else to say.

“I’ve always wanted an older sister” she suddenly said.

I looked at her with a weird look then sighed.

“I’m not ready” I just told her bluntly.

She seemed hurt but I was just telling her the truth.

“Well, I’m sorry. I don’t know what happened between mummy, daddy and you but I really like you” she said with a sad glow in her eyes.

“Your mum and dad was the reason for my mother’s death” I shot back. Venom dripping with each word.

She jumped back a little at my sudden outburst.

“Sorry” I mumbled then turned my attention back to the boys.

She obviously got the point that I did not want to speak to her and just stood the quietly behind me.

The MC was about to announce the winner of the dance battle.

I was nervous and I could see that the boys were too.

“Kyu Jong oppa, fighting!” screamed Kyo Min from behind me.

So, she likes Kyu Jong I thought to myself.

The boys fidgeted on stage and I gave them an encouraging smile.

“And the winner for tonight’s dance battle is……..DOUBLE S 501!” announced the MC.

I screamed out in joy and the boys all stared in disbelief at the MC.

“Well, we would like to thank our company DSP for giving us time to practice and to our choreographer for teaching us patiently and of course to our parents for supporting us with whatever decision we made and lastly to our manager Kyo Wen for always being there for us. Thank you” finished Hyun Joong.

As they came down the stage I ran over to them and hugged them all.

“I told you that you could do it!”

“Yah, you look happier then us” joked Hyung Joon.

“Well, I am” I squealed happily.

“Congratulations oppa!” said Kyo Min whom appeared suddenly.

“Thank you” they replied.

“Erm, can you guys give me your autographs now?” asked Kyo Min whom glanced at me.

The boys all turned and looked at me and I just nodded my head at them.

They happily signed Kyo Min’s autograph book then took a picture with her.

“Come on guys, we have to go now. You have an early schedule tomorrow”

“Okay” they said their good byes then as I was about to leave Kyo Min ran up to me.

“Unnie, thank you for letting them sign my autograph book”

“It’s nothing, there’s no need to thank me. It was them who was willing to sign your book in the first place”

“But still, thank you. Can I have your number, unnie? So I can contact you in future and we can go hang out?” she asked with a hopeful look.

I didn’t have the hear to say no, so I gave her my number and left.

[SS501’s Dorm | Kyu Jong’s P.O.V]

“Hyung, can I talk to you?” asked Kyu Jong.

“Yeah, sure. What is it?” asked Young Saeng whom was in his room.

Kyu Jong closed the door behind him and sat down beside Young Saeng.

“Hyung, please don’t laugh at me. But I think I’ve fallen in love” confessed Kyu Jong.

“What?! You know very well that we aren’t allowed to get romantically involved with anyone!” boomed Young Saeng.

Kyu Jong clammed his hand over Young Saeng’s mouth to shut him up in fear that the others might hear.

“Why don’t you use a mic, hyung” sighed Kyu Jong in frustration.

“Sorry. But you know that, right?” asked Young Saeng.

“Yeah, I do. But I just…I don’t know”

Kyu Jong buried his head into Young Saeng’s pillow and screamed.

“Kyu Jong ah” called Young Saeng.

“What?” he sat up and fiddled with the leg of his pants.

“Who is it?”

“Eh ....”
